The system of setting goals by Ziglar

In the book “Born to win“ Ziglar has this amazing system of setting goals that helped me a lot and changed my life, so today I want to help you as well! Make sure you apply everything if you want the change!

The Chinese say a 5,000-kilometer journey begins with a single step. Make a commitment to take these goal setting steps NOW!

THE BAD NEWS: In order to set your goals effectively, you have to invest a lot of time. This is one of the reasons why only 3% of people clearly set their goals in life.

THE GOOD NEWS: By following these procedures and working on your goals every day, you will have a few extra hours a week to take care of yourself, family, and business interests. When you do the right thing at the right time, the day will come when you will be able to do the things you want when you want.

ANOTHER GOOD NEWS: When you learn the formula for setting a goal, you will know how to set all your goals, regardless of their nature.

Now, follow the steps:

STEP 1

Unleash your imagination and write on your Dream List everything you want to be or have. (When you write down on paper, you focus better and the idea is imprinted in your subconscious.) If you have a family, make sure you include your life partner and children when setting goals. This process will help you activate the left hemisphere of your brain, the logical one, and release the right hemisphere of your brain, the creative one, to use more efficiently.

NOTE: "You have TO BE before you can DO IT and you have to DO IT before you can HAVE IT"

START NOW! An important reason why you set goals is to make a profit, but the benefits come only after you have taken action.

STEP 2

Wait 24 or 48 hours, then answer the question

“WHAT?” For each point in the Dream List and put the answer on the sheet. What do I really want to be, do or have? If you can’t find a proper answer then it’s really a dream, not a concrete goal, and you have to cut it off the list.

STEP 3

Ask yourself the following five questions to be answered:

1. Is it really my goal?

2. Is it ethical and fair to all involved? 3. Is it in line with my other goals?

4. Will I be able to achieve this goal? 5. Do I see myself achieving this goal?

NOTE: Answering these questions will further reduce the number of your dreams in the list, so delete those as well.

STEP 4

After each remaining dream, ask yourself the following questions:

1. Will achieving this goal make me happier? 2. Will achieving this goal make me healthier? 3. Will achieving this goal make me more prosperous? 4. Will achieving this goal bring me more friends? 5. Will achieving this goal bring me inner peace? 6. Will achieving this goal make me feel safe? 7. Will achieving this goal improve my relationships with others?

If your answer isn’t "yes" to at least one of these questions, remove that dream from the list. Warning: don't confuse pleasure with happiness! Be careful to think about your family when answering these questions.

STEP 5

Divide the remaining goals into three categories.

Short-term (one month or less)

Intermediate (one month to one year and long-term year or more). Note them in the file with ST (short-term), I (intermediate) and LT (long-term). What I really want to be, do or have.

START NOW! By doing this step you will be able to determine faster if you may or may not have a balanced perspective on what you need to do now and your plans for the future.

Don’t forget:

1. Some goals must be important (not invisible) to stimulate you to develop to your true self-potential

2. Some goals need to be long-term so you don't get distracted from your plan and reduce the possibility of short term frustrations.

3. Some goals need to be smaller and daily to help you to be disciplined and to stay in touch with the reality of life. 4. Some goals must be permanent. 5. Some goals (sales, educational, financial, loss weight etc.) may require analysis and consultation to be aware of where you stand before you establish them.

6. Most goals must be concrete. One is to say “a beautiful house "and another is to say" a house in style with 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 2 bedrooms day etc. Some goals, such as improving the image of difficult to determine precisely. The least clear must divided into concrete, tangible steps. For example, one step essential to becoming a better parent could be to spend an hour a week alone with your child.

STEP 6

Carefully choose 4 of the remaining goals (don't forget that balance is the secret), namely the most important aspects you need to work on right now. Write them down on a piece of paper. If this is your first time setting goals, get started first with two or three short-term goals.

IMPORTANT: When you set a new goal, write it down in a journal or in a place where you can see it. This will encourage you a lot. Self-confidence and the ability to achieve your goals will improve dramatically.

STEP 7

Write down these 4 goals (at least the intermediate and long-term ones) in a general table of goals and procedures, which you must complete as in the examples given. STEP 8

Separately, write down the additional goals you have listed in the “What I Really Want to Be, Do, or Have in a General Table of Goals and proceed as in Step 7.

GET STARTED NOW. Remember, motivation comes after you start the project.

CONGRATULATIONS: You have invested more time in planning your future than your friends, relatives and partners will ever invest!
